The Douglas Foundation uses Canadian-sourced wood that expands and contracts in different conditions. The dimensions of the foundation are slightly smaller than the mattress to accommodate changes in temperature and to allow the foundation to be removed from a bed frame during hotter seasons. If the foundation was designed to the exact same size specifications as the Douglas mattress, the foundation might get stuck in the bed frame.
